CALL FOR PAPERS - Economic Summit The Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF), the Department of Economics (DoE), University of Dar es Salaam, the Economic Research Bureau (ERB) and Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA) will jointly hold the first biennual Economic Summit planned to be held in year 2002. The focus of the Summit is on assessing the Tanzania's resources, both actual and potential, and determining why the Country remains poor 40 years after independence. The Summit will identify successes, failures and challenges, and propose the way forward. The following main themes and sub-themes will be covered: 1. Existing and potential resources:
2. Governance issues (at both the central and local government levels)
3. Globalization.
4. Economic diversification
5. Economic opportunities and access to social services (Human capacity and infrastructure)
6. A Synthesis paper that will also propose the way forward. If you are interested in presenting a paper on any of the themes or sub-themes, please submit an abstract now To: The collaborating institutions hope to obtain funds to facilitate writing of the papers and to meet transportation costs for those in Tanzania coming from outside Dar es Salaam. We expect that paper presenters from outside Tanzania will request their institutions to meet travel costs.
